What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing, also known as permanent makeup, is a method of tattooing that has been around for decades but is still opening doors to more natural-looking enhancements with every passing year. The main goal is to bring out your natural attributes by strengthening your features with subtlety. Cosmetic tattooing differs from traditional tattooing in that needles are not placed as deeply in the skin, pigments are used as opposed to harsh inks, and different techniques are used to avoid an end result that is oversaturated.
Are Cosmetic Tattoos permanent?
Yes, all cosmetic tattoos are permanent to a degree. The pigments used are formulated to break down in the body quicker than regular tattoo inks. This way any changes can be made to the look of your tattoos over the passing years as the face changes and ages. Microblading is generally the most likely to fade away completely in a matter of 1-3 years because of the techniques used and the area being tattooed. On the other hand, Machine Shading and Freckles will remain under the skin, fading with the passing years, and may require a yearly touch-up or color refresh (if desired). Wherever there is pigment being deposited under the skin there will some level of permanency. Here is a list of services and how long they will last before fading:
Microblading 1-3 years
Machine Shading 2-3 years
Blade & Shade 2-3 years
Freckles 1-3 years
Lip Blush 2-3 years
How do I book an appointment?
You can book here once you have thoroughly read through this FAQ page as well as the Health & Safety page. Email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com if you have any questions before scheduling.
How long will my appointment take?
Including numbing time, eyebrow tattoos normally take 2-2.5 hours whereas Freckles only take 1 hour, Lip Blushing 3 hours and Tooth Gems take as little as 15 minutes! See Book Appointment for more info.
Can I book an appointment online for a friend/relative?
Unfortunately, no. Everyone must book their own appointment! This is for multiple reasons. Everyone must read through the health information related to the procedures, take proper pre-care steps up until their appointment, read through and agree to the terms and conditions on this site before booking, the list goes on. It is better that I speak one-on-one with the client inquiring. I do however, provide gift cards! They are always available at Dharma Tattoo Collective or online here.
How do me and a friend book our appointments at the same time?
If you and a friend want your appointments to be booked together you have 2 options. 1, go to the booking page and look for the closest together appointment times for your desired services. Certain days will have more availability than others. Or 2, email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com saying you want 2 consecutive appointments where you’ll both be instructed to book online (for any day/time) to enter your information, agree to terms and leave deposits. Your appointments will then be manually rescheduled together on an agreed upon day allowing enough time to finish both services.
How do I use a Gift Card?
Gift Cards are not redeemable online. To use a gift card, start by booking a free consultation here. From there you can schedule an appointment with your artist for the service that is best for you.
Do you offer payment plans?
Unfortunately payment plans are not offered.
How should I prepare for my Cosmetic Tattoo and/or Tooth Gem?
After booking, you will be sent a confirmation email consisting of your appointment info and a list of pre-care instructions to follow. These tips will help ensure proper healed results and long lasting gem retention. (See Pre-Care & After-Care)
Is Dharma Tattoo Collective Wheelchair/Assisted-Device Accessible?
Yes, the entire shop is an open floor concept space with clear, flat routes throughout including an equally accessible, single occupancy bathroom.
What should I do if I’m going to be late or can’t make my appointment?
If you think that you’re going to be even 5, 10 or 15 minutes late for your appointment, please communicate that with your artist. Depending on how booked it is that day, you may need to be rescheduled. If you know you won’t be able to make your appointment at all and want to reschedule, be sure to get in contact with your artist to avoid cancellation/no-show fees.
What if I have previous work done and I want it fixed/touched up?
If you have previous work done by another artist please email clear photos to info@raqcosmetictattoo.com to be approved for an appointment OR book a free, in-person consultation. If your work is too saturated and not faded enough you may not be eligible. Color neutralization is provided for clients whose previous work has changed color with age (red, blue or pink) sometimes needing an additional appointment. If approved, this will count as a Cosmetic Tattoo Correction service and NOT as a Touch-Up. Booking a non-corrective service without doing the above may result in forfeiting your deposit.
What should I bring with me?
Please show up for your appointment with a valid ID as well as your smartphone (a tablet is also provided) to fill out online agreement forms. Please limit the amount of people you bring with you to one visitor per client. No children under the age of 18 are allowed in the shop at any time.
What does a consultation consist of?
This is an optional, free service that is a great way for artist and client to connect before an appointment is booked! A consult consists of going over any questions you may have, your likes, dislikes, looking at reference photos, as well as finding the right service for your skin type. Consults are 15-20 min long and can be in-person or over the phone. If not booked separately, a consultation will be included with your service the day of your appointment.
Can I come in any time for a consult?
Every service offered is appointment only, including consultations. Although consults can be scheduled online with as little wait time as 48 hours. Email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com for immediate/emergency consultations.
What can I do to prepare for my consultation?
If you are setting up a phone consultation for any brow services, please have photos of your brows with and without makeup, in good lighting, handy to send over via text or email. I want to see how you normally wear them day to day so you can get the most out of your cosmetic tattoo. Feel free to also have any reference photos of work I’ve done, or other work you like the look of. If you schedule an in-person meeting, just bring yourself! We can discuss anything and everything you want before you commit to an appointment.
How do I reschedule my appointment?
You can reschedule no later than 48 hours before your appointment via the confirmation email sent after booking. Your deposit will be transferred to the new date you choose as well. A new email will be sent to confirm your new appointment date. If you have misplaced your confirmation email please reach out directly at info@raqcosmetictattoo.com regarding rescheduling.
How can I pay for my service(s)?
Cash is always the preferred form of payment but credit/debit cards are also accepted as well as money apps like Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. When you are booking online a non-refundable deposit is required, with a debit or credit card, that goes towards your final price the day of your appointment. If for any reason you can’t place your deposit online, feel free to email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com to come in and pay your deposit directly.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several needles is used to add pigment to the skin to resemble natural, hair-like strokes. This is a great service to enhance brows that already have shape to them. Microblading isn’t for everyone so be sure to read the Health & Safety page to see if you’re a good candidate!
How long does it last?
Microblading can last anywhere between 1-3 years. Touch-ups can be done (at most) once annually depending on your skin type and lifestyle. An initial touch-up is recommended 6-8 weeks after your first session to fix any natural fall out or to perfect things like shape and color. Over the following years, pigment begins to disperse and fade into the skin. This is a good thing because over time the face changes and moves and might not fit your old cosmetic tattoos the same way. This way, at an annual touch-up, any changes can be made to accommodate an updated look if needed.
Does it hurt?
The first 20 minutes of your appointment is spent numbing while we discuss details of your procedure. There will be a secondary numbing agent administered throughout as well to ensure minimal pain. This also helps with redness, swelling and promotes healing.
Who is this service best for?
Not everyone is a candidate for microblading (See Health & Safety). Many skin types are not eligible to receive this service. This technique is best applied to clients that already have a good amount of brow hairs and structure. It adds very subtle, natural-looking enhancements and isn’t meant to completely restructure brows with very minimal to no hair. It’s great for adding more texture, fluff and shape.
How long is the healing process?
Depending on your skin type, healing takes about 1-2 weeks on the surface. We will schedule a recommended touch-up after 6-8 weeks when the pigment is done settling into the skin. See Pre-Care & After-Care.
Can I choose my own brow shape?
Of course your preferences and goals are always #1 in mind when creating your new and improved brows and will be discussed during the numbing portion of your appointment. Professional recommendations will be given to help give you an idea of the healed result as well. Once we start mapping, tools like pigment-coated string and measuring devices will be used to keep the outline as symmetrical as possible for your face shape.
Remember, I work for you!
What is Machine Shading?
Machine Shading is a permanent makeup technique where pigment is added to the skin to create a shaded, powdery, makeup effect. Ombré is simply the look given the shaded brow, more solid at the tails and becoming less dense more towards the front. Machine Shading gives the look of many, many small pixels forming a full background for your eyebrows. Once healed, it is more soft-looking than solid color. This procedure is good for eyebrows that range from over-plucked to entirely gone.
Who is this technique best for?
Almost anyone! This service can be applied to any skin type, whether it be oily, mature, textured, etc. It’s also a great option for anyone trying to reshape their brows from what they already have. Ex: thin, over-plucked brows looking to be thicker and arched. As long as you don’t have any health conditions or are currently taking any medications that might affect results (See Health & Safety) you can receive this service. Even if you aren’t a candidate for microblading!
What is the difference between Machine Shading and Microblading?
This is by far the most asked question. First, let’s start with the tools used. Microblading uses a handheld tool of multiple tiny needles to implant pigment into your skin resembling the appearance of hair strokes (See Microblading above). On the other hand, Machine Shading is created using a tattoo machine. Machine Shading creates a pixelated “makeup” look by shading in the background of the brows in the shape approved by you, from your artist.
Will this service be too “bold” for me?
At first, Machine Shading looks much more bold and dark than the healed result will be. From afar the brows will look like a completely filled in tattoo, but up close the shaded brows more “pixelated” allowing for small amounts of negative space to push through and create a less harsh appearance. The healing process lasts 7-10 days, then a total of 6-8 weeks for the final color to settle. They will heal much more soft, subtle and airy. It is at this time that you can schedule a touch-up appointment if needed.

What are Nano Brows?
Nano is a new brow service using a machine to add hair-like strokes to the brows similar to Microblading. Using a machine allows for even more natural-looking hair strokes because we are able to cross hairs and use depth to create hyperrealistic brows. This service is great for all skin types and for covering up facial scarring within the eyebrow area.
What’s the difference between Nano Brows and Microblading?
Think of Nano Brows as a new alternative to Microblading specifically to allow more people with different skin types to receive natural-looking eyebrow tattoos. Microblading is specifically for people with dry to combination skin, making it less accessible. Nano Brows are also done with a machine as opposed to a handheld tool to create those hair-like strokes. Both services are great for adding enhancing hair strokes to the brows.
What’s the difference between Nano Brows and Machine Shading?
Machine Shading is a filled-in, shaded look using a machine whereas Nano Brows create hair-like strokes using a machine.
Can Nano Brows cover my eyebrow scar/burn?
On almost all occasions, yes. Keloids are the only type of scars that are not eligible for tattooing as it can create an even worse scar. Please email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com with any questions regarding a scar/burn cover-up.
Do Nano Brows fade the same as other brow tattoos?
With any tattoo there is a bit of fading as the color settles under the skin during the healing process. The color will fade by about 20%. But because this technique holds better for different skin types, good retention is almost always guaranteed.
Can I add Machine Shading to my Nano Brow appointment?
Yes! For some skin types both of these services is the best route. This can be booked under the “Blade and Shade” service.
Does it hurt?
Because Nano requires a smaller needle and causes less trauma to the skin, an initial numbing agent isn’t needed! A secondary numbing is administered to help with redness and swelling. This service is virtually pain-free!

What is the Blade & Shade?
Just as it sounds, the Blade & Shade is a combination of Microblading and Machine Shading. This service really is the full look. Depending on your brow goals, this can either be done as bold and defined or natural yet still full. Normally done with shading to define the tail and microblading to give hair-like strokes towards the front of the brow and through-out. A great service for someone with very sparse hairs, no hairs, or a shape that they’re unhappy with, that is looking for a defined, natural-looking brow.
Does this technique look more natural or makeup-like?
Either! This technique is very versatile in that if you prefer a more natural enhancement, we can add minimal shading, while accentuating the microbladed hair strokes. Whereas, if your prefer a more filled in, makeup look, we can do more shading in the tail and blend that in with light microblading towards the front of the brow.
I have little to no eyebrow hairs, is this service an option for me?
Absolutely, the Blade & Shade is highly recommended for people lacking eyebrow hairs. The mixture of both techniques creates a full, natural-looking, artificial brow.
Can I still receive the Blade & Shade if I’m not eligible for Microblading?
Since this service does involve Microblading the answer would be no, but don’t fret! You will instead be offered a different brow service that better suits your need and will achieve the same look.
Do the same care steps & health procedures apply for this service as those for Microblading and Machine Shading?
Yes, this service is simply a combination of cosmetic tattooing techniques and the same steps & procedures apply. Click here for more informaton.
What is Lamination?
Eyebrow Lamination is when the brow hairs are permed, brushed and held upwards with a gentle adhesive to give a fluffier, thicker brow shape. Perfect for downward facing eyebrows and unruly or tangled hairs. This procedure is also great for beginners looking to try a non-invasive yet effective option instead of microblading.
How long does Lamination last?
The short answer is 8-12 weeks. The brow glue will wear off in a week or so but your hairs will remain permed for that time and be much easier to work with. Apply brow gel or soap to the brows to easily attain the look of the brow adhesive.
Does this service include eyebrow tinting?
Unfortunately I do not offer eyebrow tinting at this time. This service is normally done on top of healed Microblading/Machine Shading for the best results.
What is Cosmetic Tattoo Correction?
If you’ve had cosmetic tattoo work done (i.e. Microblading, Ombré Brows, etc) and you’re seeing a lot of fading, discoloration, or pigment migration, you may want to book a consultation for a correction session! An in-person consultation or emails of previous work are required to book.
How long should I wait after my last tattoo before booking a correction session?
Typically you want to wait at least a year before corrections can be made to any cosmetic tattoo. Picture your skin is like a full glass of water, once pigment is placed, you have to wait for it to disperse overtime before more can be added. If you are in a rush, laser tattoo removal is always an option.
Contact Dharma Tattoo Collective for removal recommendations.
I don’t know if my previous work is still too dark or not, how can I tell?
You can always email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com with well lit photos of any previous work to make sure! Also check out the Portfolio page where there are examples of “before” brows with previous work to compare them to your own.
What does a Cosmetic Tattoo Correction for eyebrows entail?
If you are in need of a Brow Correction please keep in mind that results may vary. Covering old microblading work can only be done using Machine Shading in some capacity. Placing new microblading on top of the old creates a criss-cross effect and is not recommended for a correction service. Although the Blade & Shade is still an option if you’d like to add some hair-like elements to your new brows. Neutralization may be required if your old tattoo has become too red or blue in color.
I have old freckle tattoos, can we fix them?
Every client is different and after seeing your previous work via email or consultation we can go from there. Sometimes when freckle tattoos are placed in an unnatural arrangement, we can add more sporadic sets to offset the previous work. If the color is off we can accommodate. But laser removal may still be recommended in some cases.
Will you touch-up my old artist’s work?
No. A correction is not a touch-up. This is a brand new service meant to rework your previous tattoo and bring it back to life.
I haven’t had my brows tattooed in a while and they’ve turned blue! What do I do?
This can sometimes occur (usually with Machine Shading or Laser Removal Treatments) when the pigment has faded down to its base color. Usually blue or red. This is fixable! Using Color Theory we can neutralize the pigment in your brows before we go in again with your desired color.
NOTE: This may require extra appointments at an additional cost.
My eyebrows are still very dark from the cosmetic tattoo I got years ago somewhere else but I’d like to fix the shape, am I ok to book?
Please schedule an in-person consultation to know your options!
What is Lip Blush?
Lip Blushing is a tattooing technique that can enhance the color and shape of your lips and bring color to pale or uneven lips for 2-3 years. This is done by depositing pigment throughout the lips and along your lip line. The final results are subtle to reveal more of a “lip stain” effect when healed
How long is the procedure?
Lip Blushing can take up to 2-2.5 hours from the time you come through the door to the time you leave.
Does it hurt?
Multiple numbing agents are administered throughout your entire procedure. The first 20 minutes of your appointment will be spent numbing, then again after each pass. Lips absorb the numbing agents quite well and most clients have reported little to no pain during this procedure. After-care steps are important to ensure minimal pain once the numbing wears off, such as icing and avoiding hard, spicy, salty, or acidic foods. See below for more details.
Do you over-line lips?
NO! Pigment is only added as far as your vermillion border or the lip line. Because pigment in the lips sometimes stops below this border (or recedes with age), it is possible to add pigment to create well lined lips. This is how Lip Blush adds the appearance of bigger, fuller lips without the need of filler or over-lining.
Can Lip Blush fix my uneven lips?
Lip Blush can be used to soften the appearance of asymmetry, yes. But the fact of the matter is, faces are asymmetrical! If unevenness is your only worry, lip filler can be recommended in place of Lip Blushing.
Who is a good candidate for Lip Blush?
Anyone unhappy with their current lip color! This is a great service for someone that no longer wants to apply lipstick every day. Pale lips will be revitalized and pigment loss can be corrected. Easily covered with other lipstick colors whenever you choose! See Health & Safety if you are prone to or suffer from cold sores and/or dry lips before booking.
I have dark, cool-toned lips, can I still get Lip Blush?
Yes! Neutralization is the appointment before the appointment so to speak. This is the process of cancelling out those cool colors within the lips with the help of a warm-based pigment. After the lips are neutralized and healed, the target color can be applied. Depending on your desired color this may require multiple appointments at an additional cost.
Will it look like I’m wearing lipstick?
Boldness depends on your color selection. Swatches (an example of the color of the pigment used vs. the color when healed) will be available the day of your appointment to see how the pigment will heal. As pigment settles underneath the lips, the color will fade and heal to look more similar to a lip stain. Lip Blush is often referred to as “watercolor lips” when using softer colors.
I’m also thinking about getting lip filler, which procedure should I get first?
If you are considering getting Lip Blush and lip fillers in order to achieve full, beautiful, and moisturized lips, it is usually recommended to receive your Lip Blushing first. In any permanent makeup situation you want to get the procedure that lasts the longest FIRST. In young people, lip fillers can last about 12 months, whereas Lip Blush (at any age) lasts 2-3 years. Receiving your permanent makeup first will leave your lips with a beautiful new color and well-shaped. From there, filler can be reapplied as you so choose without any problems with your tattoo.
Can I get Lip Blush if I already have lip fillers?
Yes. You must wait a minimum of 6 weeks after lip fillers to receive Lip Blush. Clients with lip fillers usually also experience more swelling. Because Lip Blush is applied within the vermillion boarder, the two do not contradict each other and instead leave a beautiful, full, color-filled result.
What steps should I take to ensure my Lip Blush comes out as beautifully as possible?
Read about every step of the healing process here!
How are Freckles applied?
A hand-poked method is used along with multiple sized needles to apply natural-looking, sporadic freckles. Density and color will be discussed at the beginning of your appointment.
Are Freckle tattoos permanent?
Yes, all cosmetic tattoos are permanent to a degree. The pigments used are formulated to break down in the body quicker than regular tattoo inks. The longevity of the tattoo highly depends on how you take care of your skin. For example, someone that has a more concentrated skincare routine including AHA/BHA’s (exfoliants), retinol, and gets skin peels or laser treatments will have more faded freckles than someone who simply moisturizes and uses SPF regularly. See Pre-Care & After-Care for more longterm care tips.
How much is a Freckle Touch-Up?
Freckle Touch-Ups are free of charge and only bookable via email, text or direct message. A touch-up is for anyone looking to darken their already existing freckle tattoos, not to add another layer of freckles. For that you must book a new freckle tattoo appointment.
Whats the difference between Freckles and Beauty Marks?
Freckles require a larger area of the face whereas beauty marks require just 1,2 or 3 spots. The appointment time is shorter for beauty marks for that reason as well. It is always recommended that freckles be lighter in color to achieve a more natural look whereas beauty marks tend to be a tad darker.
Does the price vary for the amount of Freckles I want?
Yes, and here is a guide to gauge what amount you are looking for:
Is it better to get a large amount of freckles at once or build them up over time?
As a professional recommendation, if you are looking for any amount of freckles larger than the L size, it is highly recommended that you space out your sessions. This will allow your previous tattoos to heal and settle to give dimension between sessions and an overall more natural looking result.
Can you darken a beauty mark I already have?
Any moles cannot be tattooed, even with the permission of your dermatologist. Tattooing moles (especially raised) can lead to discoloration, migration of pigment, or can even mask a harmful lesion. On the other hand, enhancing or darkening freckles is doable.
What are Rainbow Freckles?
This is a cosmetic tattoo treatment which recreates the look of having freckles, only in a custom color the client chooses. Typically in blue, pink, yellow and green to mimic sprinkles. This service is only available via email or direct message and is to be noted that this is not a natural enhancement or recreation of natural freckles.
What are Heart Freckles?
Heart Freckles are available as an Add-On Service to add a heart shaped freckle to your freckle tattoo appointment. Other simple designs are available, inquire via email.
How do I take care of my new Freckles?
What are Tooth Gems?
Tooth Gems are high quality, dental-safe jewelry specifically made to adhere to a tooth’s surface with medical grade equipment (not sold to the general public) to add a sparkle to your smile! No drilling, no pain. The process is similar to having a brace bracket applied at the dentist if you were to receive braces! Whether you are looking for a little shine or a larger design, there are hundreds of designs to choose from. All gems are special ordered unless chosen from the large, in-shop collection the day of your appointment. You must be 18+ to receive this service. Tooth gems must be applied to real teeth only (no veneers) and are not for anyone that wears Invisalign or plastic retainers/night guards.
How are they removed?
Dharma Tattoo Collective does not offer Tooth Gem removals. In the event that you need a tooth gem removed before it falls of naturally, you will need to make an appointment with a dentist or orthodontist to avoid any harm to your enamel. We cannot recommend using any metal tools to remove any gems yourself. Gems can be removed during a routine dental cleaning, just inform your practitioner. If you need referrals please email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com.
How will I know which gems are currently available?
We keep a large assortment of in-shop gems readily available although all solid 18k gold, precious stones, or crystal gems (shown below) can be special ordered and may take up to 2-3 weeks to arrive. Keep up with posts on Instagram to see the newest gems the shop has received.
Do you offer grillz or caps?
Unfortunately no, but there are faux 18k solid gold caps available that mimic real caps. They are adhered to the tooth’s surface and have a curvature to bend around the tooth. Unlike a real cap, the faux caps don’t go as far as the gum line or where your teeth come together. See below for design options! Also see the Online Store for personalized, reusable, dental acrylic costume fangs to achieve a similar look.
What tooth gems do you offer?
Take a look below at this large selection of tooth gems that we provide! Take note of the maker, design, color or gem # (if it applies) of the gems you are interested in (feel free to screenshot). Please email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com when interested in 3 or more 18k Gold Pieces.
Note: All Swarovski® Crystal Tooth Gems are available in-shop at all times. Please email for more information on available crystal gems or make a selection the day of your appointment.
Note: Dharma Tattoo Collective does not offer Tooth Gem removals. If you choose to remove a gem before it falls off naturally this must be administered by a dental professional. See Policies for more details

How should I list which gem(s) I want when ordering?
Describe the gem & how many
If gold, which type of gold? 18k yellow or white gold?
If Swarovski® Crystal or Opal, which size, shape and color? (If unsure, you can choose your crystal or opal gems the day of your appointment)
Add the gem number/description if applicable (pictured above)
Feel free to send screenshots to info@raqcosmetictattoo.com to specify your gem!
In the event that your desired gem is out of stock or unavailable, please choose a backup design. You’ll be notified if we need to use the backup.
Placement and after-care will be discussed the day of your appointment
How long will the gem stay on my tooth?
Swarovski® Crystals and Opals have a lifespan of anywhere from 6 months to 1 year+ if properly taken care of, whereas all 18k Gold pieces (including bezels) will last 2-3 years. You will be provided with after-care instructions the day of your appointment to ensure longer lasting results.
What do I do in the event that my gem falls off?
If your gem does accidentally fall off, there is a 3-month warranty on all tooth gems. Reach out via email to receive a reapplication appointment free of charge. Your tooth must be clean for reapplication! Meaning if your gem has fallen off with any adhesive remnants left on the tooth that must be removed before your reapplication appointment.
Note: Only 18k Gold Gems can be reapplied if still in your possession, all Crystal/Opal gems will be fully replaced.
Can any gem go on any tooth?
Most of the time! Typically gems are placed anywhere from the central incisors (front teeth) to your premolars (teeth directly behind canines). But there are some exceptions based on the size of the gem and the shape/size of your tooth. For example, if your canines are quite rounded, this only allows small crystals to properly adhere to the tooth without any edges hanging off the side. We want the entirety of the crystal to adhere flat on the tooth. With that being said, all 18k Gold pieces are bendable to match your tooth’s shape! So most gold pieces can be applied to any tooth depending on the size of the gold piece. The large “cap” styles are for incisor application only (no canines).
Can you apply a tooth gem I purchased somewhere else?
For your safety, all gems must be chosen from the listed examples above to be properly/safely applied.
What is a Chandelier Tooth?
This is a new tooth gemming service which is made up completely of many reflective, miniature gems that cover the entirety of the tooth. The smaller gems make for a longer lasting set and a simpler, yet shimmery, appearance. Not to be confused with a “Disco Ball” Tooth, which a whole tooth comprised of 5-10 Swarovski Crystals. See Portfolio for examples of each.
What does a Freestyle Gem Set entail?
There are currently 4 types of Freestyle Sets available: Crystal/Opal ONLY, Crystal/Opal and 18k Gold, Luxury Gold, and Luxury Diamonds and Gold. A Freestyle Tooth Gem Set is for anyone looking to receive a large and unique set of gems! Designed by your artist with your style in mind, a freestyle set will be designed specifically for you.
Email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com for a quote on a larger set.
What discounts do you offer for getting multiple gems?
A mixture of tooth gems will always create a beautiful display of individuality and is highly encouraged. After a single gem is purchased, the price drops by 50%. For Example: 1 Swarovski® Crystal is $50, 2 is $75, 3 is $100 and so on. Individual gem prices decrease as the amount of gems goes up. Price breakdowns are always available for full transparency.
What are the tooth gems made of?
Swarovski® Crystals are made of lead-free glass, gold pieces are 18k solid yellow or white gold (never plated), and opals are lab created and made of silica and resin.
Can an 18k Gold Tooth Gem be reapplied after years of wear?
Yes, but it is recommended to visit your dentist to make sure you are properly taking care of your gems before we reapply. Remember, tooth gems are completely safe for your teeth, so long as you are practicing proper dental hygiene. Your 18k Gold Tooth Gem will be buffed and shined before reapplication. Any fallen crystals or opals will be fully replaced.
What's the difference between VS and VVS Diamonds?
VVS Diamonds are of a higher quality and are significantly more expensive compared to diamonds graded one step lower on the clarity scale (a VS Diamond). VS refers to “Very Slight” inclusions or imperfections in the diamond only viewable at 10x magnification. All diamond tooth gems include a certificate of authenticity upon request.
Why are 18k Rose Gold pieces pictured but not available?
Rose Gold is an alloy made from a combination of gold and copper. The blend of the 2 metals is what gives rose gold its color and karat. With that being said, any amount of copper should not be adhered to a live tooth as it will effect the enamel. Grillz are the exception as they are removable at anytime.
Can I still receive routine teeth cleanings/whitening With my gems?
Yes! We still want you keeping up with your dental hygiene after receiving a gem. Regular cleanings and check-ups are highly encouraged and will not effect your gem (or vice versa) in any way.
Can I get a tooth gem if my teeth are yellow?
Absolutely, yes. So long as your teeth are healthy and undamaged, a tooth gem can be applied to add a shine and sparkle to any smile :) See Health & Safety for more details.
Can I receive Teeth Whitenings with my tooth gem(s)?
Yes, at home whitening strips will not effect your tooth gem or leave a “shadow” on your tooth. However some whitening procedures done by a professional may weaken the bond. Do so at your own discretion!
Will the gems stain my tooth?
If properly cared for, gems will not harm your tooth in any way OR cause any discoloration. When gems are adhered to the surface of the tooth, the tooth is immediately sealed off in that spot, denying anything to penetrate through the gem to discolor your tooth. Although, it is important to keep your gem and teeth clean and to still practice regular dental checkups to ensure tooth health.
Can I feel the gem on my tooth?
The jewels are only 0.4mm or 0.9mm thick and 1.8mm to 3mm in diameter. Initially, something on your tooth will feel different, but a few days after the application you will get used to the new feeling.
Can I brush my teeth normally?
The presence of the tooth jewelry will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended you wait 12 hours after application to brush and not to use an electric toothbrush over your gem.
What if I swallow the tooth gem in the event it falls off?
All of the gems provided are non-toxic and lead-free with no sharp edges. It will simply go through and come out!
Does the application hurt?
Not at all. The procedure is similar to placing a brace bracket on a tooth if you were receiving braces. It is 100% painless with no drilling involved.
What if I have Invisalign? Can I have this done?
NO, Invisalign is fitted perfectly to your teeth & would not fit around the gem(s). The same can be said if you have retainers or night guards that cover your teeth. Wire retainers can be worked around, please inform your tooth gem technician if you wear a wire retainer.
Can you cover my entire tooth with gems?
There are crystal design options (and 18k gold designs) that do cover most of the tooth area. We will not put any gems too close to your gum line or right where your teeth come together to allow flossing. So you’ll notice with, for example, the Chandelier Tooth, there will be a small amount of space left all around the design to allow proper dental cleaning and avoid gum irritation.
Can I receive a tooth gem while pregnant/breastfeeding?
Unfortunately no, since hormonal changes and increased sensitivity can occur during pregnancy, which can make your teeth and gums more sensitive. It's always best to be cautious about any new dental procedures during this time and wait until before or after pregnancy/breastfeeding.
What steps should I take to ensure my tooth gem lasts as long as it can?

What are Costume Fangs?
These fangs are a one-of-a-kind costume decoraction that adds a unique touch to any cosplay, festival outfit and more. The fangs are made with high-quality dental acrylic ensuring a realistic and comfortable fit. A personalized tooth gem design is added to the fangs (using medical grade dental adhesive and dental safe crystals) and are custom fit to your teeth from the included at-home kit. Multiple sizes and styles are offered! Be as descriptive as you want with your design! Use your imagination!
Do the fangs permanently adhere to the tooth?
No, the fangs are in no way permanently attached to your tooth. If the instructions are followed properly, the fangs will be able to attach onto your tooth easily and become unattached when desired for reuse.
Are these grillz?
No, although you may be familiar with single cap grillz, these are less intricate and much less expensive. And no, fang caps are not made of gold.
What teeth do they go on?
These fangs are meant to be applied to the upper or bottom canines and incisors (the teeth right next to your front teeth). Although, different sizes are better for different teeth! If you have smaller teeth or want fangs for your bottom teeth, the smaller fangs are recommended.
Can I wear them all day?
Yes and no, you’ll want to remove your fangs for things such as eating, sleeping and brushing your teeth. Other then that, you’re free to wear them as often and for as long as you’d like!
Can I eat with my fangs on?
No, please remove your fangs before eating to avoid damaging them and the gems.
What kind of gems are used?
Only lead-free, dental safe crystal gems are used such as Swarovski and Preciosa Crystals. No 18k gold, opal, or precious stone pieces are used but are available upon request. Please email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com to inquire.
Are there shipping options available?
At the moment Fang Caps are for pickup only from Dharma Tattoo Collective in Ferndale, MI. Pickup dates/times will be discussed via email (info@raqcosmetictattoo.com) after purchase. Shipping options will be announced soon!
How do they custom fit?
This is the only brand of fangs that uses professional grade dental material to custom fit your fangs. Each set of fangs comes with a molding kit that uses a firm denture relining material (flex acryl). By simply mixing the material, placing it in the fang cap, and putting the cap on your tooth, the material wraps around your tooth and hardens. This creates a firm impression of your tooth inside the cap so it can simply snap on and off whenever you want! No glues and messy melted plastics needed.
Can I wear them with braces, Invisalign, retainers or tooth gems?
Unfortunately, no. The fangs need to be flush with your tooth which means they can’t go on top of brace brackets or tooth gems and won’t fit around/under any retainers. It is also recommended to not wear your custom fangs over any crowns, veneers, plates, wires, bonding, veneers, dentures or any other dental work nor if you have irritated or sensitive gums nor right after a dental cleaning until your gums heal.
How do you clean them?
You can clean your fangs by simply brushing them like you do your own teeth. Make sure to rinse them and dry them. It’s a good idea to let them open dry. Leave them out on a paper towel other than the sealed case you get with the fangs. Storing them wet in a sealed container can make them musty. Another option is using denture cleaner like Efferdent. It cleans the fangs completely and makes the nice and minty!
How old do you have to be to order costume fangs?
Because the fangs are technically a choking hazard, the recommended age of the wearer is 14+ and right now, because shipping options are still in the works, pickup is only available from Dharma Tattoo Collective by 18+ patrons.
I lost my instructions, how do I put on the fangs?

More Tips!
Do I really have to skip coffee the day of my cosmetic tattoo appointment?
Yes. Along with alcohol, caffeine effects your bleeding and lymph production making it harder for your artist to apply proper techniques during your procedure. This also negatively effects healed results. You will be turned away if you show up with a coffee in-hand on your appointment date.
Why are these steps so important?
Good retention is based on 4 factors: 25% pre-care, 25% artist, 25% tools used, 25% after-care. All of these things are vital to receiving a quality cosmetic tattoo.
What are some longterm steps I can follow to help my tattoos last?
The longevity of your cosmetic tattoo depends heavily on how you treat your skin! Things like following the initial healing steps, spf wear and simple skincare can keep your tattoo looking fresh for years to come. Things like retinol, laser treatments and skin peels will prematurely fade your tattoo possibly leading to more required touch-ups.
Fun tip: After healing, on a typical day when you are applying other makeup such as foundation, be sure to take a Q-Tip and clean off the tattooed area to keep them vibrant! Foundation covering your cosmetic tattoo can accidentally cause them to look more faded.

How often should I get a Touch-Up on my cosmetic tattoos?
Initial touch-ups are recommended but not required. Permanent makeup is usually a 2-step process since everyone’s facial skin is different and how you heal depends on many different factors. So a touch-up or “perfecting session” is a great way to see how you heal, make any adjustments and ensure the longevity of your tattoo. It is recommended to receive a touch-up 6-8 weeks after your appointment. Then inquiring about an annual touch-up can be done 1-2 years thereafter.
How will I know if I need a touch-up?
If you are unsure if your cosmetic tattoo requires a touch-up feel free to email info@raqcosmetictattoo.com with attached photos of your tattoo. Touch-ups are not a requirement and are only meant to perfect any natural fall-out, make small adjustments, or refresh the color.
What occurs at an initial touch-up appointment?
At your touch-up we will discuss the healed results as well as the longevity of your tattoo. We can go darker with the pigment if needed or make small adjustments. But mostly we will ensure the color is healed evenly and fix any natural fall out. This way your cosmetic tattoos can last for years to come.
How/when should I book a touch-up appointment?
We will typically book your 6-8 week brow touch-up the day of your initial appointment. But I understand that schedules can be hectic, if you need more time to set up your touch-up that’s fine! You can always schedule it here (you will need to secure a non-refundable deposit when booking online). If you accidentally book a touch-up before the minimum time required for proper healing, it will need to be rescheduled. Click here if you are unsure when to book your touch-up.
Why are brow touch-ups only allowed at certain intervals?
Although your brows will be healed on the surface after the first 7-10 days, the process is not over. It takes at least 6-8 weeks for your brow’s true color to show after settling in underneath the skin. Your brows must be 100% healed before any more work can be put into them at the initial touch-up. Touch-ups thereafter are limited to 1 per year.
How long does an initial touch-up appointment take?
Your touch-up appointment will only take about half the time as your initial session. See Book Appointment for more details.
How many touch-ups do I need?
Everyone’s skin retains pigment differently. Depending on your goals, some clients may need 2 initial touch-ups as opposed to 1. After your initial touch-up you are all set for 1-3 years! After 1 year and the passing years, you will be contacted for an annual touch-up appointment. Some clients want a refresher ASAP and others require no annual touch-up. Either way is fine!
What would happen if I opt out of any touch-ups?
That is perfectly fine! No touch-ups are mandatory. Your cosmetic tattoos will simply continue to fade over time.
